The Northfield Arts and Tradition Fee, in partnership with the Buddies and Basis of the Library, is happy to announce the three winners of the 2020 Spanish Sidewalk Poetry competitors: Tyler Gardner, Francisco Gaytan and Luis Rivera.
This particular contest solely for Spanish language poems coincided with Hispanic Heritage Month on the Northfield Public Library. This 12 months’s theme was Deja Tu Huella / Mark Your Mark. The competition garnered 14 Spanish language poems from group members.
The three profitable poems will likely be on show on the Northfield Public Library and Metropolis Corridor, posted on the Buddies and Basis of the Library and metropolis’s web sites, metropolis Fb and Instagram accounts, and shared with native media. Starting within the spring and persevering with by means of the summer season, poems will likely be put in in Metropolis sidewalks, as climate permits. A Sidewalk Poetry capstone celebration will happen sooner or later; precise date, time, and format to be decided.
The Arts and Tradition Fee applauds and thanks the numerous native poets who submitted their poetry to the competitors. The poems had been chosen by 5 judges from throughout the group, representing the universities, the Metropolis, the group, and printed poets. Judging was utterly blind that means judges had been supplied no figuring out data relating to the poets. Judges had been: Melanny Castillo and Jeniffer Rosas, library employees on the Northfield Public Library; Claudia Gonzalez George, employees on the Group Motion Heart and incoming Northfield Faculty Board member; Kristina Medina-Vilariño, affiliate professor of Spanish at St. Olaf Faculty; and Mar Valdecantos, translator for the Northfield Public Faculty District, visible artist, and previous profitable poet.
This Arts and Tradition Fee undertaking is a partnership with the Northfield Public Library. This exercise is funded by the Buddies and Basis of the Northfield Public Library and is made potential by the voters of Minnesota by means of a grant from the Southeastern Minnesota Arts Council due to a legislative appropriation from the Arts & Cultural Heritage Fund.
