ESTES, Mary Brooke Steele, of Winchester, Va., previously of Petersburg, Va., handed away on Monday, February 15, 2021. Born in Greenwood, Mississippi, she was the daughter of the late Matthew Weaver and Mary Hunter Steele; and was additionally preceded in demise by her husband, George Colquitt Estes, an Episcopal minister; and two brothers, M.W. Steele Jr. and Edwin Hunter Steele. Mrs. Estes attended Randolph Macon Ladies’s Faculty, the place she was awarded a B.A. diploma in English. She retired from Hampton Metropolis Public Colleges as a librarian after a few years of devoted service. She had been a member at each St. Paul’s Episcopal Church and Christ & Grace Episcopal Church in Petersburg, Va. Mrs. Estes lived a lifetime of service to God and to others by the church, as an grownup literacy tutor, election ballot employee, organizer of meals financial institution and garments closet ministries and lots of different charitable actions and acts of kindness. She beloved singing within the church choir and educating Sunday college and served on the church sacristy. Amongst her accomplishments was the founding of the Trinity College for poor kids in Cali, Colombia, when Mr. Estes was the pastor of the native Episcopal church in Cali. She beloved touring world wide and was an avid reader; Scrabble participant; and skillful solver of acrostic, crossword and different difficult phrase video games and puzzles. Mrs. Estes loved taking part in tennis, and would organize video games of Charades and Fictionary on the many vacation meals that she hosted for family and friends. She is fondly remembered for her wit, hospitality and zest for all times. Mrs. Estes is survived by her daughter, Mary Hunter Estes Barrat; two sons, George Colquitt Estes Jr. and spouse, Nelly and Matthew Weaver Steele Estes and spouse, Mary Ellen; seven grandchildren, one great-grandson and quite a few nieces and nephews. A graveside funeral service might be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, February 25, 2021, at Blandford Cemetery, with the Rev. Robin Teasley officiating.
